Hamirpur sand-washing centres allegedly waste millions of litres of water daily

Allegations of massive water wastage and illegal sand-washing operations have surfaced in Hamirpur, where washing centres are reportedly consuming millions of litres of water. Every day, millions of litres are allegedly being wasted to wash sand loaded onto trucks. The centres are covered from the front with plastic sheets, allegedly to mislead the administration and conceal the activity.

Groundwater is being extracted, with rules allegedly being openly flouted. Behind the cover of the plastic sheets, the illegal washing operation is reportedly continuing day and night. The activity is flourishing in the area under Lalpura police station.

The situation has raised questions over claims of water conservation, while those responsible appear unaware. The key question now is: when will the administration wake up to the wastage of water?
