Girl missing in Shravasti after family dispute, river search underway

A 17-year-old girl has gone missing under suspicious circumstances in Shravasti district, prompting a search operation in the Rapti River. The teenager's parents have accused a fellow villager of killing their daughter and disposing of her body in the river following a dispute earlier the same day.

Pratibha, an Intermediate final year student, disappeared from her home in Majra Jogni village under Bhinga police station area on Monday evening. Her father Tejram Verma had been involved in a heated argument with village resident Ramesh Verma over draining water from a canal earlier that day. According to the complaint, Ramesh allegedly assaulted Tejram's wife during the altercation, grabbing her by the hair and beating her.

The couple traveled to Bhinga police station on Monday to file a case regarding the assault. When they returned home in the evening, they discovered their daughter missing from the house under mysterious circumstances. The parents immediately suspected foul play and accused Ramesh of murdering Pratibha in retaliation and throwing her body into the Rapti River.

Local police responded to the complaint and launched a search operation in the river to locate the missing girl. The investigation is currently underway, with authorities examining both the disappearance and the earlier dispute between the two families. Police are working to verify the allegations while continuing search efforts along the riverbanks.

The case has raised concerns in the village community, with the sudden disappearance occurring just hours after the reported assault and family dispute. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the disappearance is connected to the earlier altercation, and the search for the teenage girl continues.
