Ghaziabad: Encounter With Imran Who Snatched Woman's Mangalsutra, Pistol And Loot Recovered

Police in Ghaziabad have arrested Imran after an encounter in connection with the snatching of a woman’s mangalsutra during her morning walk in Govindpuram, under the Kavinagar police station area. According to the police, a Honda Activa, a tamanchha, cartridges and the looted items were recovered from him after the encounter.

The incident took place in Govindpuram, in the Kavinagar police station area of Ghaziabad. A woman had gone out for a morning walk when a bike-borne miscreant allegedly targeted her. The accused, identified as Imran, saw an opportunity, snatched her mangalsutra, described in the source as a “suhaag ki nishani”, and fled from the spot.

Police said they later received information that a miscreant was coming to carry out an incident. Acting on this input, Kavinagar police immediately started a checking drive in the area. During the checking, a white scooter was seen approaching. Police signalled the rider to stop, but according to the police, the miscreant opened fire at them.

After the firing, an encounter took place and the accused was arrested. His identity was confirmed as Imran. Police said that several cases related to chain snatching and vehicle theft were already registered against him.

Following the encounter, police recovered a Honda Activa, a tamanchha, cartridges, the mangalsutra looted from the woman and other items from Imran. The recovery was made as part of the action taken after the snatching incident in Govindpuram.

Kavinagar police have started further investigation in the case. Police said they are alert about the safety of women in the area and that regular checking drives are being carried out to tighten action against such crimes.
