Former Wipro Employee Alleges Religious Harassment, Files Complaint in Pune
A former Wipro employee in Pune has alleged religious harassment and workplace discrimination, claiming she was pressured to convert to Islam and resign. A legal notice has been sent to the company, and police are investigating.
A former employee of Wipro Technologies in Pune has accused the company of religious harassment, workplace discrimination, and being forced to resign. The allegations were made during a press conference organized by the Hindu Janjagruti Samiti. The woman, who previously worked at Wipro's Hinjewadi office, has filed a complaint at the Hinjewadi police station and sent a legal notice to the company, demanding compensation of ₹50 lakh.
According to the complainant, she faced pressure from a female colleague to convert to Islam and enter into a relationship with a Muslim man. She alleged that the colleague frequently interfered in her personal life and encouraged her to abandon her Hindu faith, claiming it would improve her life and provide opportunities to work abroad. The woman stated that she endured this harassment for 10 months and reported the matter to senior officials at Wipro. However, she claims no action was taken, and instead, a complaint was filed against her with the company's internal ombuds committee.
The complainant further alleged that in August 2025, she was called to a team meeting where she was pressured to resign without being given an opportunity to present her side. Following her resignation, she approached the police, who have now initiated an investigation into the matter.
This incident follows similar allegations of harassment and forced religious conversion reported at another IT company in Nashik. Police investigations are ongoing in both cases.
