FIR registered against social media commentator for derogatory remarks on MP Azad

An FIR has been registered against social media commentator Ajit Bharti for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Member of Parliament Chandrashekhar Azad and using caste-based language. The complaint was filed by Bhim Army's Delhi unit at the North Avenue police station in the capital, marking a significant escalation in the controversy surrounding inflammatory content on social media platforms.

According to the complaint, Bharti used abusive language while commenting on MP Chandrashekhar Azad on social media and also employed caste-indicative words targeting the community. The Bhim Army Delhi Pradesh unit took the matter seriously and moved swiftly to register a formal complaint with the authorities. The case has been officially recorded at the North Avenue police station, and the Delhi unit's team was responsible for filing the FIR.

Chandrashekhar Azad, the chief of the Bhim Army and a prominent Dalit leader, represents the Nagina constituency in Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha. He has been a vocal advocate for Dalit rights and social justice issues. The incident highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding caste-based discourse on social media and the use of inflammatory language targeting public figures and marginalized communities.

The registration of the FIR follows growing concerns about hate speech and casteist remarks proliferating on digital platforms. Legal experts note that such comments could attract charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code dealing with offensive speech and provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The police are expected to investigate the matter and examine the social media posts in question as part of their inquiry.
