A farmer, भगवानदीन यादव, was allegedly beaten to death with an iron rod late at night in Ghurona village of Rae Bareli over a dispute concerning a drain. Following the incident, his family members created a commotion at CHC Bachhrawan and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. During the protest, an argument also broke out between the police and the family members.

The killing has left the farmer’s family devastated. Relatives and villagers continued protesting till late at night, demanding action against those accused in the case. Police assured them that action would be taken after an investigation.

According to the information available, भगवानदीन यादव and his neighbour had fields located close to each other. There was only one drain through which water could enter the fields. Both sides claimed their right over the drain and would argue about who should use the water first. The dispute had reportedly continued for a considerable time.

The argument escalated and eventually led to a physical assault. The accused allegedly attacked भगवानदीन with iron rods after acting together. He suffered serious injuries to his head, hands and legs.

With the help of people from the surrounding area, the family took him to CHC Bachhrawan. There, Dr Bhavesh Yadav declared him dead. After information about the incident spread, a large number of villagers gathered at the community health centre.

The family members then stopped the police from taking the body for postmortem. They began protesting and insisted that the accused should first be arrested. Their demand was that only after the arrests should the body be sent for postmortem.

The police tried to persuade the family members. After discussions, the relatives agreed and the body was sent for postmortem.

Pradeep Kumar, CO Maharajganj, said that the police had registered a case on the basis of the complaint submitted by the family members. He said teams had been formed to apprehend the accused involved in the incident and the assault.
