Electrical pole strikes high-tension wire in Kanpur, worker killed, two injured

An electrical pole installation accident in the Jainpur industrial area of Kanpur Dehat district claimed one life and left two workers critically injured when the pole came into contact with a high-tension power line overhead.

The accident occurred at Pepsi Chowk in the Jainpur area, which falls under the Akbarpur Kotwali police station jurisdiction in Kanpur Dehat district, where work was underway to install new electricity poles. During the installation process, a hydra machine was being used to erect a heavy iron pole, and three workers were holding the pole from below to guide it into position.

Suddenly, the upper end of the pole struck a high-tension wire passing overhead. Within seconds, a powerful electrical current surged through the pole and all three workers holding it were caught in its grip.

Local residents and ambulance services rushed the injured workers to the district hospital in Akbarpur immediately after the incident. Upon examination, doctors at the hospital declared Dharmendra dead. The two other workers, Sonu and Gaurav, who sustained serious injuries in the accident, are currently undergoing treatment.

The Akbarpur Kotwali police were informed about the incident and reached the spot along with concerned administrative officials. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

The tragedy unfolded at the Pepsi Chowk location in Jainpur, an industrial zone in Kanpur Dehat district, highlighting the hazards faced by workers during electrical infrastructure projects. The three labourers were performing what appeared to be routine installation work when the pole they were steadying made contact with the live high-tension line above, sending a lethal jolt through the metal structure they were gripping. The condition of the two surviving workers, Sonu and Gaurav, remains under medical observation as doctors continue their treatment at the district hospital in Akbarpur.
