Drug trafficking suspect with 25,000 rupee bounty arrested in Bahraich

Bahraich police have arrested a wanted drug trafficking suspect who carried a reward of 25,000 rupees on his head. Vishal Mishra, son of Bachchulal Mishra and a resident of Gilaulabazar in Shravasti district, was apprehended on August 21, 2026, from the Jhingaghat bypass area under Dargah Sharif police station limits. The 25-year-old accused had been absconding since his initial arrest earlier this month in a narcotics case.

Mishra was first detained on August 16, 2026, during a police checking drive along with another suspect, Rafiq, son of Ateeulla from Tilakpur Chauraha in Shravasti. Police had recovered 9.44 grams of smack from both individuals, following which two cases were registered at Dargah Sharif police station under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as well as another case under sections 261/262 BNS. While Rafiq was produced before court, Mishra managed to evade custody and became a fugitive.

Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Srivastava announced a cash reward of 25,000 rupees for information leading to Mishra's arrest, given the serious nature of the offence. A special team was formed under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police City Ayush Vikram Singh, Circle Officer City Narayan Datt Mishra, and Station House Officer Dargah Sharif Amitendra Singh to track down the absconding accused.

Mishra has an extensive criminal history spanning multiple cases across Bahraich and Shravasti districts, including four NDPS Act violations, one arms act case, and charges related to theft and criminal breach of trust. Following his arrest, necessary legal proceedings have been completed and the accused has been sent to court for judicial remand. The operation reflects the ongoing anti-crime campaign being conducted by Bahraich police to crack down on drug trafficking and criminal activities in the region.
