Crumbling road to Nepal poses safety crisis for thousands of daily commuters

A critical road connecting Shravasti district to Bahraich and Nepal has deteriorated into a serious safety hazard, with dozens of dangerous rain cuts now threatening thousands of daily commuters. The stretch from Malhipur Chowraha in Jamunha block to Babaganj in Bahraich district has become treacherous following the monsoon, with erosion gullies hidden under overgrown bushes creating conditions ripe for major accidents.

The situation is particularly alarming near Chinta Samay Mata temple, where a dilapidated bridge has exposed iron rods protruding dangerously from its surface. These sharp reinforcement bars are puncturing vehicle tires and causing accidents. Commuters Narendra, Shahzad, and Ramsurat reported that travelers are being injured regularly, yet no repair work has been undertaken despite officials frequently using the same route.

Beyond Bhagwanpur crossing, a large rain cut has hollowed out the road from within, causing sections to cave in. Four-wheeler drivers are at particular risk of overturning when taking the side of the road. The erosion channels, concealed by tall vegetation growing on both sides, are invisible to motorists until it is too late, creating a constant threat of serious accidents.

Local residents including Dinesh Kumar, Majnu, Farhan, and Bhulai have appealed to the District Magistrate demanding immediate inspection and repairs. They emphasized that this vital artery serves thousands of vehicles daily traveling between Shravasti, Bahraich, and Nepal, making urgent intervention critical. Despite the road falling under the jurisdiction of responsible district officials who reportedly have taken notice, repair work on both the bridge and the rain cuts remains pending, leaving commuters to navigate these life-threatening conditions daily.
