CMO finds health workers absent, PMSMA guidelines flouted at district hospital

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh conducted an intensive surprise inspection of the Combined District Hospital Bhinga, Community Health Center (CHC) Bhangha and several schools on 1 September 2026. Expressing displeasure over deficiencies found during the inspection, the CMO issued strict instructions for immediate improvement in arrangements.

During the visit to the Combined District Hospital Bhinga, the Chief Medical Officer found that the 'Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan' (PMSMA) day was not being organized as per guidelines. He expressed strong dissatisfaction over the disorder and lack of adherence to protocols at the district hospital.

Several health workers were found absent from duty during the inspection. Dr. Singh issued directions to seek explanations from the ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife), Lab Technician (LT) and counselor who were found missing from their posts at the time of inspection.

The security and parking arrangements at the hospital also came under scrutiny. No security guard was deployed at the main gate of the hospital, due to which vehicles were parked haphazardly inside the premises. This was causing obstruction to the movement of patients and ambulances. Strict instructions were issued to strengthen the security arrangements and streamline vehicle parking.

The CMO reviewed the WIFS (Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation) program in schools through the Prerna app. He visited and reviewed Primary School Budhai Purwa, Sati Chaura and Composite School Siswa. It was confirmed that children were being regularly given medicine under the WIFS program at these schools and the related registers were also found updated.

In contrast to the district hospital, the surprise inspection of Community Health Center (CHC) Bhangha revealed a positive picture. The PMSMA day was found to be conducted as per rules at CHC Bhangha. All health workers were present and health services were being provided smoothly. The CMO appreciated the functioning of the center.

During the inspection at CHC Bhangha, Dr. Singh took special interest in a seven-month pregnant woman Sarita Sharma, a resident of Bhangha with hemoglobin 8 gram, who was being administered iron sucrose. The CMO enquired about her health and gave instructions to complete 5 doses on time and to ensure safe institutional delivery in the hospital itself.

The Chief Medical Officer made it clear that no negligence of any kind in health services will be tolerated and all responsible personnel should perform their duties with complete dedication.
