The barat ghar in Gram Majhavali village of Baniyakhera block, Chandausi, has moved away from its original purpose and is now being used as a place to dry clothes. Clothes were found hanging on its main gate, prompting local residents to express their displeasure.
Residents said the gate of the barat ghar is being used to dry clothes, creating problems when weddings and other functions are planned at the venue. They said the facility was built for wedding ceremonies and social programmes, but its present condition is causing inconvenience.
The photograph clearly shows 15-20 clothes, towels and blankets hanging from the main iron gate of the barat ghar. The gate has blue walls on both sides, while a board above it reads “बारात घर मझावली”.
A resident said that weddings and other social programmes were earlier held at the venue. Now, however, clothes are dried every day on the gate and in the premises. The resident said this was bringing a bad name to the village in front of relatives arriving from outside.
“बाहर से आने वाले रिश्तेदारों के सामने गांव की बदनामी हो रही है।”
Residents said they had complained to the gram panchayat several times, but no action was taken. They have now demanded that the administration immediately clean the barat ghar and enforce rules for its use.
The residents want the barat ghar to be freed from encroachment, a ban on drying clothes on the gate and the posting of a regular sanitation worker.
