CDO suspends pay of 11 absent employees after surprise Kanpur Dehat inspection

Chief Development Officer Vidhan Jaiswal has suspended the pay of 11 employees who were found absent without permission during a surprise inspection of various departmental offices at the Vikas Bhavan in Kanpur Dehat. The CDO has also ordered the absent staff to submit written explanations for their unauthorized absence.

The surprise inspection, conducted on August 20, 2026, covered multiple government departments including Social Welfare, District Panchayat Raj, Agriculture, and Rural Engineering. All 11 employees who were found missing from their posts had neither taken prior permission nor informed their respective departments about their absence. Expressing strong displeasure at the laxity, Jaiswal immediately ordered the docking of one day's salary for each absent employee and sought clarifications from them regarding their whereabouts during office hours.

During the inspection, the CDO also reviewed the general upkeep and cleanliness of the offices, the quality of grievance redressal mechanisms, and the maintenance of official records. He emphasized the importance of delivering government welfare schemes to eligible beneficiaries in a time-bound manner and instructed officials to ensure that all work is carried out efficiently and transparently.

Jaiswal further directed officers to adopt a sensitive and responsive approach when dealing with ordinary citizens who visit government offices for assistance. He stressed that public servants must remain accessible and accountable, and that any negligence or casual attitude towards duty would invite strict disciplinary action.

This surprise inspection is part of a broader effort by the district administration to enforce discipline and improve service delivery across government departments in Kanpur Dehat. The move sends a clear message that absenteeism and dereliction of duty will not be tolerated, and officials are expected to maintain high standards of professionalism and public service.
