BKU Tikait Announces September 26 Protest Over Rs 600 Sugarcane Price, Police Conduct

The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait) has announced a sit-in protest at Thana Junawai on 26 September against the attitude of the Junawai police station and has also demanded that the sugarcane price be raised to 600 rupees per quintal.

According to a report by Rajat Malhotra from Sambhal/Junawai, an important meeting of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait) was held today, dated 24 September 2026, at the Janta Dharamshala in village Samadpur.

Farmers from the village took part in the meeting in large numbers. During the meeting, district spokesperson Dr. Purendra Singh Yadav raised the problems being faced by farmers and said the government is not listening to their voice.

Dr. Purendra Singh Yadav demanded that, as the sugarcane rate was very low last year, the price of sugarcane should be fixed at 600 rupees per quintal this time. He also demanded that farmers’ electricity, water and other bills be waived.

Youth district president Kripal Singh Yadav, meanwhile, made serious allegations against the Thana Junawai police. He said Thana Junawai has become a hub of middlemen and that no work is done without money.

He said there is heavy anger and resentment among the people of the area because of this attitude of the police.

The Kisan Union has announced that a dharna-protest will be held at Thana Junawai on 26 September against the attitude of the Thana Prabhari Junawai.
