The BJP’s Seva Sankalp Yatra, being taken out from Vadnagar in Gujarat to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, reached Sambhal on Wednesday, where it was given a grand welcome by party workers. The yatra, which began from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthplace Vadnagar and is headed to his parliamentary constituency Varanasi, had its night halt at Haribaba Bandh in Sambhal.
Rajat Malhotra reported from Sambhal that when the co-travellers who had arrived from Gujarat entered the district limits, BJP workers welcomed and felicitated them with enthusiasm under the leadership of BJP district president Harendra Singh. The reception marked the Sambhal leg of the journey, which is passing through Uttar Pradesh as part of the wider route from Gujarat to Varanasi.
Harendra Singh said the yatra has been launched to mark 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s service as Chief Minister and Prime Minister. He said the journey started from Vadnagar, the birthplace of the Prime Minister, and will go up to Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency.
According to the BJP district president, several programmes are being held during the yatra. These include tree plantation, cleanliness drives and interaction with beneficiaries. The campaign is being projected by the party as an outreach built around service and public contact.
A political discussion intensified during the yatra when people from the Muslim community showered flowers on a bulldozer. Reacting to the scene, district president Harendra Singh said, “This scene is an answer to those who say that the bulldozer demolishes the poor.” He described it as a sign that the people of Uttar Pradesh have accepted the bulldozer government.
Jamnagar MP Poonamben Maadam, who was part of the yatra, also addressed the purpose of the campaign. She said Prime Minister Modi’s resolve is that public service is national service. Speaking in Sambhal, she also made a claim about the condition and safety of women, saying that women are now stepping out strongly, taking leadership roles and becoming empowered by taking benefit of government schemes.
Poonamben Maadam said the aim of the yatra is to inspire people towards service. She said it also seeks to make people aware of their contribution to nation building, along with their role for themselves and for future generations.
The geographical route of the yatra links Vadnagar in Gujarat, Prime Minister Modi’s birthplace, with Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, his parliamentary constituency. The journey will cover more than around 1500 kilometres and will pass through Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh. The Sambhal stop included the welcome by local BJP workers, the flower shower on the bulldozer by people from the Muslim community, and the night stay at Haribaba Bandh.
