The voice of National Health Mission (NHM) contractual employees is expected to be raised in the Lok Sabha, with Bijnor Lok Sabha constituency MP Shri Chandan Singh Chauhan assuring a delegation that he would take up their demands during the upcoming session.

A delegation of the National Health Mission Contractual Employees Association (Regd.) met Shri Chandan Singh Chauhan at his residence in Muzaffarnagar. The delegation briefed the MP about the various problems faced by NHM contractual health employees and their pending demands.

The representatives placed the employees’ major demands before the MP. They said that NHM contractual employees had been serving in the Health Department for a long time with complete dedication and responsibility. However, they said, the employees had still not received several basic facilities and the benefits of their legitimate demands.

District president Dr Sachin Jain said that Shri Chandan Singh Chauhan listened to all the problems of the delegation with seriousness and sympathy. According to Dr Jain, the MP said that NHM contractual employees were being treated unfairly and that their demands were completely justified.

The MP said that the problems of the employees should be resolved soon. He assured the delegation, “I will raise the voice of NHM contractual employees in the Lok Sabha.” He also said that he would raise the issue prominently during the upcoming Lok Sabha session.

Shri Chandan Chauhan further assured the delegation that he would extend every possible support to take the problems of NHM contractual employees at the state level to the Chief Minister. He said that the employees’ demands would be strongly placed before the government.

The delegation also informed the MP about demands related to health insurance, a 10 per cent increase in honorarium every year and a loyalty bonus, along with other demands. On these issues, Shri Chandan Chauhan said that facilities such as health insurance, an increase in salary or honorarium and a loyalty bonus were basic requirements of the employees. He added that receiving these facilities was their right.

The MP also expressed surprise that NHM contractual employees had been kept deprived of these facilities despite making an important contribution to health services for so many years. He said that it was not appropriate for employees who had contributed to health services for such a long period to remain without these facilities.

Office-bearers of the National Health Mission Contractual Employees Association thanked Shri Chandan Chauhan for his support. They said that the cooperation of public representatives would play an important role in taking the employees’ voice to the government.

The delegation expressed hope that the MP’s decision to raise the issue in the Lok Sabha would lead to a positive initiative towards resolving the years-old problems of NHM contractual employees.

The delegation included Dr Sachin Jain, Dr Rahul Verma, Dr Faisal Siddiqui, staff nurse Smt Dimple Rani, data operator Shri Hazrat Ali and Shri Sanjay Kumar, along with other office-bearers and employees.
