A political dispute continues in Bihar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, with the ruling side and the opposition taking sharply different positions on the process.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary responded on 27 September to the opposition’s allegations over SIR. He said that during the SIR process, voters were verified and people were given an opportunity to file claims and objections.
The Chief Minister said that in the 2025 process, a large number of voters were verified. He also said action was taken in cases related to dead voters, shifted voters and duplicate names in the voter list.
Responding to the opposition’s criticism, Samrat Choudhary asked opposition leaders to present examples of voters whose names had been wrongly removed from the list. His remarks were aimed at countering the allegations being raised against the voter list revision exercise.
On the other hand, CPI(ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya has objected to the SIR process and demanded that it be stopped. The issue has therefore become a continuing political flashpoint in Bihar, with the ruling side defending the process and the opposition questioning it.
