Bihar To Resume Sand Mining At 212 Ghats From October 16
Sand mining in Bihar is planned to resume from 16 October after the restrictions imposed during the monsoon season.
Sand mining in Bihar is planned to resume from 16 October after the restrictions imposed during the monsoon season. Preparations are underway to restore activities at 212 sand ghats across the state, according to the Department of Mines and Geology.
Of the 212 ghats, 181 are linked to the production of yellow sand, while 31 are associated with white sand production. The department said these ghats will reopen as part of the plan to restart sand mining operations.
According to department data, Bihar received around Rs 1,220 crore in revenue during the current financial year up to September. During the same period last year, the revenue stood at Rs 862 crore.
The department has attributed the increase in revenue to better management, improved monitoring and action against illegal mining. These measures have contributed to higher revenue collection during the period, the department said.
The resumption of mining is expected to increase the availability of sand for the construction sector. It could also affect construction costs and the supply of sand used in construction work.
At the same time, compliance with environmental rules will remain important. The protection of the river ecosystem and continued control over illegal mining will also be necessary after activities resume at the 212 sand ghats.
