The suspense, however, continues over who will be the next DGP of Bihar. Preeta Verma is currently the most senior IPS officer, and attention is now on the UPSC panel for the next appointment.
According to a report, Vinay Kumar is currently on leave. In his absence, Preeta Verma is handling the charge of DGP. Vinay Kumar is a 1991-batch IPS officer. He became the DGP of Bihar in December 2024, and his regular tenure was till December 2026.
His move to the post of Chief Information Commissioner comes after the selection committee agreed on his name. The committee was chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav were also part of the committee.
With the VRS approval and the notification for his new appointment now issued, the focus has shifted to the state’s next police chief.
