Bahraich district adopts ten TB patients under Nikshay Mitra scheme on PM's birthday

A special initiative to eliminate tuberculosis was undertaken at the district TB clinic in Bahraich to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with ten TB patients being adopted under the Nikshay Mitra scheme and nutrition kits and fresh fruits distributed to patients at the centre.

The programme was organized under the ongoing 'Seva Pakhwada' observance and was led by District TB Officer Dr. M.L. Verma, who personally distributed fruits and nutrition materials to the patients while wishing them a speedy recovery.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. M.L. Verma said that public participation is essential to realize the Prime Minister's vision of a 'TB Mukt Bharat', a tuberculosis-free India. In this sequence, ten patients have been adopted under the Nikshay Mitra scheme with the objective of providing them with nutrition and emotional support throughout their treatment period. He emphasized that tuberculosis can be completely cured with regular medication and nutritious diet.

Dr. Verma informed the patients and their caregivers present that the government has made the entire arrangement for TB treatment, testing and medicines completely free of cost. Additionally, nutritional support funds are also sent directly to the bank accounts of patients through DBT, or direct benefit transfer.

The event, held on 17 September 2026, gave momentum to the 'TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan', the TB-free India campaign. All ten adopted patients will be provided with regular monitoring and necessary nutrition materials until their treatment is complete.

Health department staff, health workers and several dignitaries were present during the programme at the district TB clinic. The adoption initiative aims to provide sustained nutritional and emotional care to TB patients, complementing the government's free treatment facilities to ensure complete recovery and support the national mission to eliminate tuberculosis from the country.
