Arijit Singh's Manager Confirms No Comeback with Awarapan 2

Arijit Singh's manager has clarified that the singer's involvement in the title track of Awarapan 2 does not mark his return to playback singing. The song, "Yeh Awarapan," released on Tuesday, was part of prior commitments made before Singh announced his retirement earlier this year.

No Comeback, Just Old Obligations

Fans speculated about Singh’s return after the emotional track dropped online, but his team quickly dismissed the rumours. "He is just completing the projects that were finalised before the retirement was announced," his manager told The Print. "Arijit isn’t doing a comeback in playback singing. These are old commitments."

Singh shocked the music industry in January when he announced his decision to step away from playback singing, stating, "I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off." However, he assured fans that he would honour previously agreed-upon projects, including the title tracks for Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’ Romeo and Sunil Pandey’s Ek Din.

A Melancholic Prelude to Awarapan 2

The newly released "Yeh Awarapan" blends Amaal Mallik’s melancholic composition with Rashmi Virag’s emotionally charged lyrics, exploring themes of love, separation, and loss. The music video features Emraan Hashmi reprising his iconic role as Shivam Pandit, showcasing his character’s emotional struggles and intense action sequences.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 is the sequel to the 2007 cult hit Awarapan and sees Shivam Pandit return from the dead for a new adventure. The film also stars Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, and debutant Aniruddh Rawal. It is set to release on August 14.

A Legacy in Transition

Arijit Singh’s retirement has sparked widespread discussion among fans and industry insiders. Music composer Pritam, a longtime collaborator, noted that Singh’s decision reflects his desire to explore other creative avenues. "Artists don’t retire. They take a break and redirect to something that is interesting them more," Pritam told SCREEN. Singh is reportedly working on directing a film with a "beautiful and meaningful script."

While fans may miss Singh’s voice in new releases, his remaining "old commitments" offer a chance to cherish what could be his final contributions to playback singing. For now, the singer remains focused on charting his own creative course.
