AIMIM holds review meeting in Uttar Pradesh, eyes 2027 assembly polls

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) held a crucial organizational and review meeting in the Akbarpur town of Kanpur Dehat district as political parties across Uttar Pradesh have begun consolidating their ground in preparation for the 2027 state assembly elections. The meeting witnessed a significant gathering of party workers and office-bearers and was presided over by Tahir Shaikh Siddiqui, the central president of AIMIM, who injected fresh energy into the cadre with his address.

During his speech at the organizational meeting, Tahir Shaikh Siddiqui launched a sharp attack on multiple political formations including the Samajwadi Party, the Congress, the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party. He leveled serious allegations against the opposition parties, accusing them of having consistently neglected the Muslim community and treating them merely as a vote bank while ignoring their priorities and problems. Siddiqui told the gathered workers that these parties had always disregarded Muslims and failed to address their concerns in any meaningful manner.

Addressing the party cadre, the AIMIM central president made a strong appeal to workers to strengthen the organization ahead of the crucial assembly polls. He urged them not to fall prey to anyone's manipulation in the 2027 elections and called upon them to unite and raise their voice collectively. The political battle for the Uttar Pradesh elections in 2027 has already begun heating up, and the large turnout of AIMIM workers and office-bearers at the Akbarpur meeting in Kanpur Dehat reflected the party's renewed push to expand its footprint in the state.

Tahir Shaikh Siddiqui also delivered a stinging counterattack against senior leader Asim Waqar, who recently left AIMIM to join the Congress party. Waqar had reportedly made statements branding AIMIM as the "B-team" of the BJP. Responding sharply to these remarks, Siddiqui questioned why it had taken Asim Waqar such a long time to arrive at this understanding. He dismissed the allegations as baseless and suggested that Waqar's criticism stemmed from personal frustration over unfulfilled ambitions within the party.

Using a pointed analogy, Siddiqui said that when people's personal ambitions are not fulfilled, they resort to saying "the grapes are sour," referring to the popular fable. He accused leaders who make such unfounded allegations of damaging their own credibility and raising questions about their own integrity. The AIMIM central president's remarks were aimed at discrediting Waqar's claims and projecting them as motivated by personal disappointment rather than any genuine ideological or organizational concern.

In his address at the meeting, Siddiqui also attacked the policies of the BJP government while placing opposition parties in the dock simultaneously. His speech reflected AIMIM's strategy of positioning itself as an alternative to both the ruling dispensation and the traditional opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh. The party appears determined to carve out its own political space by appealing directly to Muslim voters who, according to AIMIM's narrative, have been ignored by mainstream political formations.
