A 14th-century gateway near Ujjain's Mahakal temple has collapsed. According to information, the ancient gateway located adjacent to the old Mahakal police station, close to the Samrat Vikramaditya Heritage Hotel, crumbled and fell down.
The gateway dates back to the 14th century and served as a route through which devotees would travel between the Mahakal temple and the old city area via a slope. Idols of Lord Ganesh were also installed on the gateway.
The structure collapsed after sustaining damage due to construction and development work underway on all sides.
