Google Bets on Gemini AI to Reinvent the Smart Speaker with New Google Home Device Google is aiming to redefine the smart speaker market with the integration of its generative AI platform, Gemini.
On June 17, the tech giant unveiled the Google Home Speaker, its first standalone smart speaker in nearly six years.
Priced at $99.99 (approximately Rs 9,421), this device represents Google’s most significant innovation in smart home technology since the launch of Nest Audio in 2020.
Unlike traditional smart speakers that primarily focus on voice commands, music playback, and smart home controls, the Google Home Speaker is designed as a conversational AI assistant.
It leverages Gemini’s natural language capabilities to handle more complex, multi-step requests.
This launch is part of Google’s broader strategy to integrate Gemini across its product ecosystem, including smartphones, search, and home devices, as competition in the AI assistant space heats up.
The device enables users to interact more naturally, eliminating the need to memorise specific commands. For instance, users can issue multi-step instructions like dimming lights, starting music, and setting timers in a single sentence.
