The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has requested a report from the Ram Mandir Trust following allegations of ₹7 crore theft in donations. Sources revealed this development on Wednesday. BJP leader Dr. Rajnish Singh had written to the Prime Minister on Tuesday, urging a CBI investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, Nripendra Mishra, chairman of the Ram Mandir Building Committee, held a four-hour meeting with trust members on Tuesday to discuss donation management and accounting.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has also raised concerns, questioning the government's silence and asking who is protecting those allegedly involved. He demanded the release of CCTV footage and clarity on the involvement of private companies in donation counting. Yadav further criticized the lack of transparency and called for accountability.
The Ram Mandir Trust has clarified that internal audits are conducted regularly with representatives from the trust and SBI. Trust secretary Champat Rai stated that no irregularities have been found so far. Donations are counted under CCTV surveillance, recorded in registers, and stored in lockers before being deposited in the bank the next day. The trust's main account is with the State Bank of India in Ayodhya.
Dr. Rajnish Singh emphasized the need for transparency, stating that Ram Mandir is a center of faith for millions and any allegations must be thoroughly investigated. He suggested that if the claims are baseless, an inquiry would help establish the truth.
