Nagpur sees massive development, 2.5M trees for 'Green City'

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced major development initiatives in Nagpur, including a commitment to plant 2.5 million trees under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign. Addressing a press conference on June 13, 2026, Gadkari emphasized transforming Nagpur into a green city by involving schools, universities, and local organizations in large-scale plantation efforts.

Highlighting achievements of the Central Government over the past 12 years, Gadkari noted that welfare schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi have impacted millions. Employment initiatives such as Mudra Yojana and Skill India have also supported small entrepreneurs and trained youth nationwide.

In Nagpur, redevelopment projects for markets like Cotton Market, Itwari Market, and Mahal are underway, alongside infrastructure upgrades such as the Nagpur Metro Phase II and III. Gadkari also mentioned upcoming transport projects, including the Nagpur-Hyderabad Expressway, which will cut travel time to 3.5 hours.

The Minister highlighted institutional developments like AIIMS, IIM, and National Law University in Nagpur, along with recreational projects like Oxygen Park and Bird Park. Employment generation remains a focus, with 1,600 driving training centers planned nationwide, aiming to train over 1.15 crore individuals annually.

The Indora-Dighori flyover project is nearing completion and will open to traffic on August 1, 2026, further enhancing connectivity in the region.
