Debut filmmaker Jomy Jose Kaiparrett has achieved a significant milestone with his first feature film, *Karuthal*, which has been honoured with the Kerala Film Critics Award 2025 for Best Socially Relevant Film. Produced under the Dreams on Screen Productions banner, the film features Prashanth Murali in the lead role and has been lauded for its heartfelt portrayal of a sensitive social issue.

Released on February 6, 2025, *Karuthal* has resonated with audiences both in Kerala and internationally, including in the United States and Ireland. The production was shot across various locations in Kerala, with key scenes filmed abroad.

The film stands out for its exploration of contemporary social concerns, focusing on the emotional and physical loneliness of ageing parents yearning for their children's presence during their later years. This deeply emotional narrative struck a chord with viewers and critics alike. Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Jomy Jose described the award as an immensely rewarding honour for his debut effort. He credited his background in short filmmaking and the unwavering support of his family and friends for helping him bring the project to life.

The film boasts an extensive cast led by Prashanth Murali, supported by actors such as Kottayam Ramesh, Sibi Thomas, Sunil Sukhada, Aishwarya Nandan, and many others.

Acclaimed cinematographer Sabu James handled the screenplay, dialogues, and cinematography, while Sandeep was responsible for editing. The background score was composed by Anit P. Joy, with music by Johnson Mangazha and Shaiju Kelandara. Lyrics were penned by Jose Kaiparrett and Smis, and the songs were performed by vocalists including Praseetha Chalakudy, Kester, Pradeep Palluruthy, Binduja Prem, and Smis.

The film's production team included Executive Producer Sanju Simon Mackil, co-producers Mathew Mappillette, Shalin Sheejo Kurien Pazhayampallil, Tommy Joseph, and Jo Stephen, as well as art director Robin Stephen. Makeup was managed by Punalur Ravi and Anoop, while Roshan Mathew oversaw music production.

Following its critical success and the Kerala Film Critics Award recognition, the makers of *Karuthal* have announced plans to release the film in the United Kingdom. Additionally, the film is set to make its digital debut after completing its theatrical run, ensuring that a wider audience can experience this poignant and socially relevant drama.
