In Jodhpur, Rajasthan, a Vivo mobile phone exploded in the pocket of a grocery shop owner, Gopal Soni (39), on Monday afternoon at Mandore Krishi Mandi. The sudden blast caused the phone to catch fire, leading to severe burns on his thigh and fingers. Soni attempted to remove the burning phone from his pocket, which further injured his fingers. He was immediately rushed to Mandore Satellite Hospital and later shifted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
Soni, a resident of Lal Sagar area, shared that the incident occurred around 3:30 PM while he was at his shop checking a drawer. He usually keeps his phone in his shirt pocket but had placed it in his pant pocket that day. He described hearing a loud explosion and feeling intense pain, initially thinking it was an electric shock from his nearby laptop. Upon looking down, he saw smoke and flames coming from his pocket. Other shopkeepers rushed to help him and took him to the hospital.
The Vivo phone, purchased two years ago, showed no signs of overheating or malfunction before the blast. It was charged to 87% at the time, and Soni stated that the phone was functioning normally prior to the incident. The unexpected explosion has raised concerns among smartphone users.
The incident caused panic among nearby shopkeepers, who assisted Soni and helped extinguish the fire. He is currently receiving treatment in a specialized burn ward.
