Indian Navy's INS Tarkash arrives in Seychelles to boost ties

Indian Naval Ship Tarkash, a stealth frigate of the Indian Navy, docked at Port Victoria, Seychelles on June 12, 2026, as part of its operational deployment in the South West Indian Ocean Region. The ship escorted the Seychelles Coast Guard vessel PS Zoroaster from India to Seychelles after its refit at GRSE, Kolkata, showcasing India's maritime partnership in shipbuilding and maintenance.

The visit highlights the interoperability between the two nations to address shared maritime challenges in the Indian Ocean Region. Captain Rohit Mishra, Commanding Officer of INS Tarkash, is scheduled to meet senior officials from the Seychelles government and defence forces during the port call.

Cultural and social engagements are planned during the ship's stay, along with the handover of critical spares and essential supplies to the Seychelles government. These activities aim to deepen bilateral cooperation and strengthen the camaraderie between the two nations.

India and Seychelles have maintained close maritime ties, with collaborations in areas such as security, shipbuilding, and regional stability. The arrival of INS Tarkash underscores India's commitment to fostering mutual cooperation and addressing maritime security concerns in the region.

This deployment is part of India's broader strategy to enhance its presence and partnerships in the Indian Ocean Region, ensuring peace and stability through collaborative efforts with neighboring nations like Seychelles.
