The CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) conducted a three-day offline skill training programme on 'Basics of Koha Software' from June 10-12, 2026, at its Satsang Vihar campus in New Delhi. The initiative aimed to enhance skills in open-source library automation and train participants in managing Integrated Library Management Systems (ILMS).

Koha, a globally recognized open-source library management software, was the focus of the training. A total of 33 participants from academic, research, and library institutions across India attended the programme. The sessions were coordinated by Ms. Meetali Bharti, Mr. Salim Ansari, and Mr. Mukesh A. Pund, Chief Scientist and Head of the Training Division at CSIR-NIScPR.

The training included theoretical and hands-on sessions covering topics such as Koha architecture, Linux installation, software deployment, cataloguing, patron management, and report generation. Participants gained practical experience in configuring and managing library systems, enhancing their ability to implement modern library automation solutions.

During the inaugural session, Ms. Meetali Bharti emphasized the importance of skill development in digital library technologies, while Mr. Mukesh A. Pund highlighted the growing need for library automation to improve efficiency and accessibility. The programme concluded with a valedictory session led by Dr. Naresh Kumar, who stressed the role of digital systems in advancing knowledge management.
