CSIR-CRRI, MCD Partner for Sustainable Road Repairs in Delhi

In a significant step towards improving Delhi's road infrastructure, CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on June 10, 2026. The partnership focuses on scientific road evaluation, quality supervision, and capacity building for MCD engineers and staff.

A key highlight of the collaboration is the adoption of ECOFIX, an innovative pothole repair technology developed by CSIR-CRRI. Made from processed iron and steel slag aggregates, ECOFIX aligns with the national 'waste-to-wealth' vision by utilizing industrial by-products for sustainable road maintenance. This technology promises faster, durable repairs while reducing environmental impact.

Dr. Ch. Ravi Sekhar, Director of CSIR-CRRI, emphasized the institute's decades-long contributions to road research and highlighted the benefits of technologies like ECOFIX and Steel Slag Road Technology. These innovations aim to enhance road durability, reduce maintenance disruptions, and support circular economy practices.

MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar underscored the importance of technology-driven approaches in urban road management. He stated that the collaboration would strengthen MCD's technical capabilities and improve road serviceability across the city.

The agreement also includes structural assessments and quality control measures for MCD roads. Senior officials from both organizations attended the event, marking a shared commitment to creating resilient and sustainable road infrastructure for Delhi's citizens.
