Beti Bachao Beti Padhao boosts girl child care, education progress

The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, launched in 2015, has evolved into a nationwide movement promoting the survival, protection, and empowerment of the girl child. The Ministry of Women and Child Development highlighted its achievements in improving gender indicators, including the Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) and girls' education access.

According to government data, the national SRB improved from 918 in 2014-15 to 929 in 2024-25, reflecting efforts to curb gender-biased sex selection and promote institutional deliveries. In education, girls' secondary-level enrollment rose from 75.51% to 80.2% during the same period, showcasing better retention and transition rates.

BBBP focuses on dignity at birth, early childhood care, and education, creating an enabling environment for holistic development. The program integrates health services, nutrition support, and advocacy campaigns to drive behavioral change and community engagement.

The initiative is a joint effort by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Ministry of Education. It aims to address gender-based discrimination and ensure equal opportunities for girls across India.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening BBBP and advancing women-led development, emphasizing the importance of protecting, educating, and empowering every girl child in the country.
