BCCI Clarifies Stance on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Incident, Rules Out Intervention

Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has broken its silence regarding the heated on-field altercation between India A's young batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and a Sri Lanka A player during a recent match. Addressing the ongoing discussions and speculation surrounding the incident, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has made it clear that the board will not intervene in the matter.

Saikia emphasized that decisions regarding such on-field incidents fall exclusively under the jurisdiction of the match referee and umpires, as per the rules and regulations of the International Cricket Council (ICC). He categorically stated that the BCCI has no role in such situations and will not take any action.

Responding to widespread rumors on social media suggesting potential action by the BCCI, Saikia dismissed these claims as baseless. "There are many speculations, but they are unfounded. I assure you that the BCCI will not interfere in the match referee's jurisdiction," he said.

The BCCI Secretary further explained that interfering in such matters would set a negative precedent. "If the board intervenes, it would encroach upon the authority of the match referee and umpires, which is not something the BCCI intends to do. It is neither our responsibility nor within our regulations to do so," Saikia added.

Underlining the importance of adhering to ICC protocols, Saikia reiterated that any disputes or incidents occurring on the field must be addressed by the designated officials. He also stressed that the BCCI's rules and ICC provisions do not grant the board the authority to intervene in such cases.

As the cricketing world awaits the match referee's report and potential decisions regarding the incident, the BCCI has made it clear that it will respect the established processes and refrain from any involvement.
