Himachal Pradesh: Seven Dead as Bolero Plunges Into Gorge, Six From Same Family

Chamba, Himachal Pradesh – Seven people, including six members of the same family, lost their lives when a Bolero vehicle plunged into a 1,200-foot-deep gorge on the Chamba-Masroond road late Wednesday night. The seventh victim was the vehicle's driver.

According to reports, the victims were returning home to Mehal village after attending a mundan ceremony in Kakadrotha village. The vehicle, bearing registration number HP-01C-2581, went out of control and veered off the road, resulting in a fatal crash. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely mangled.

The deceased have been identified as Chuni Lal (65), Devi Lal (62), Babli Devi (45), Moti Ram (45), Anita Kumari (20), Kunta Devi (53), all from Mehal village, and Manohar Lal (34) from Dharo village. Among the victims were two brothers and a husband-wife duo.

The accident occurred at midnight, but authorities were only informed in the morning. By the time police and rescue teams reached the site, all occupants of the vehicle had succumbed to their injuries. The bodies were retrieved from the gorge and sent for post-mortem examinations. After the procedures, the bodies will be handed over to the families.

Chamba Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar confirmed the fatalities, stating that the cause of the accident is yet to be determined. The victims included three women and four men.
