Vice-President Encourages Journalists to Uphold Truth, Integrity

The Vice-President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, addressed the closing ceremony of the Sansad TV internship programme on June 11, 2026, at the Vice-President's residence.

The month-long programme was designed for final-year postgraduate students of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC).

During his speech, Shri Radhakrishnan emphasized the critical role of media in a democracy, urging aspiring journalists to prioritize truth, objectivity, and public interest.

He highlighted the need for journalists who are "intellectually honest, socially sensitive, technologically competent, and committed to democratic values." The Vice-President also cautioned against sensationalism in today's media landscape, stressing that credibility should be

rooted in factual accuracy rather than popularity. He encouraged students to contribute to India's vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047, projecting the country's progress with integrity.

Shri Radhakrishnan also addressed the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence in journalism, noting its potential for research and verification while emphasizing the importance of human editorial judgment.

He called for vigilance against misinformation and deepfakes, urging inclusive reporting that goes beyond metropolitan areas to cover diverse stories across India.
