NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam Scheduled for June 21: NTA Announces Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the re-examination for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2026 will be held on June 21.
The re-exam follows the cancellation of the original test conducted on May 3 due to allegations of paper leaks and other irregularities.
To assist candidates in preparation, the NTA has released details about the exam structure, subject-wise question distribution, and marking scheme through a post on the social media platform X.
According to the NTA, the re-exam will feature a total of 180 questions, carrying a maximum of 720 marks. These questions will be distributed across three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Specifically, Physics and Chemistry will each have 45 questions worth 180 marks, while Biology will include 90 questions carrying 360 marks. The agency has emphasized a balanced distribution of questions across all subjects, describing the format as "One Examination.
One Fair Field." The marking scheme for the examination has also been clarified. Candidates will earn four marks for every correct answer, while one mark will be deducted for each incorrect response. No marks will be awarded or deducted for unanswered questions.
The NTA has advised candidates to answer carefully to avoid losing marks due to negative marking. In a move aimed at enhancing transparency, the NTA has announced that students will be allowed to take their test booklets home after the examination.
