Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced plans to transform Nagpur into a green city by planting 2.5 million trees under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign.
Speaking at a press conference marking 12 years of the Central Government, he highlighted major infrastructure projects and welfare schemes benefiting citizens and boosting employment.
The tree plantation initiative will involve schools, universities, NGOs, and other stakeholders, with saplings of 2-3 meters provided for large-scale conservation efforts.
Gadkari emphasized mapping districts in Maharashtra to document plantation activities and recognize contributing regions.
In terms of welfare, over 58 crore bank accounts have been opened under Jan Dhan Yojana, 60 crore citizens benefited from Ayushman Bharat, and 11 crore LPG connections were distributed under Ujjwala Yojana.
Farmers also received financial aid through PM-Kisan, while Mudra Yojana disbursed ₹35 lakh crore in loans to small entrepreneurs. Nagpur's development includes market modernization projects, metro expansion, and key infrastructure like AIIMS, IIM, and IIIT.
Employment initiatives include driving training centers, with 1.15 crore people expected to benefit annually. Gadkari also announced the Nagpur-Hyderabad Expressway, reducing travel time to 3.5 hours, and the Indora-Dighori flyover set to open on August 1, 2026.
