By next week, it is likely to extend to Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Odisha.
The onset of monsoon winds has brought relief from heat in several plains, while pre-monsoon activities have caused storms with wind speeds of 50-60 kmph and heavy rainfall in some areas.
In Uttar Pradesh, strong winds uprooted trees in Unnao on Tuesday, leading to the death of a 70-year-old man who was trapped under a fallen tree. Kerala and Karnataka have been experiencing continuous rainfall for the past 4 days.
Heavy rain in Bengaluru and Belagavi on Tuesday caused waterlogging on roads, with vehicles seen being swept away in some areas. Meanwhile, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh continue to face intense heat, with heatwave alerts issued for several districts.
On Monday, Sri Ganganagar recorded the highest temperature in the country at 45.6°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heatwave warnings for 8 states, including Rajasthan, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, where temperatures are expected to rise further by June 10.
In Madhya Pradesh, 18 districts, including Jabalpur and Barwani, are under a storm and rain alert today, while heatwave warnings have been issued for 5 districts on June 10 and 11.
