KSCA urged to bring major cricket matches to Kalaburagi

KSCA Urged to Host Major Cricket Matches in Kalaburagi Kalaburagi, located in the Kalyana Karnataka region, has witnessed growing calls for the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to host high-profile domestic and international cricket matches in the city.

The demand for a stadium of international standards in the region was highlighted during a joint press conference held on June 16 by KSCA and the Maharaja Trophy franchise Gulbarga Mystics. Dr.

Syed Mohammed Ali Al Husseini, owner of Gulbarga Mystics, emphasized the need to expand cricket tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Indian Premier League (IPL), and international matches beyond Bengaluru.

He stated that the Gulbarga Mystics team represents the Raichur zone and aims to nurture young cricketing talent from north Karnataka. Dr. Husseini further noted that Kalaburagi’s KBN Stadium boasts modern infrastructure and is well-equipped to host major cricket events.

He pointed out that while the region has abundant cricketing talent, the absence of high-profile tournaments has limited opportunities for aspiring players.

Responding to these concerns, KSCA Vice-President Sujith Somasundar assured that the association would evaluate the infrastructure and security arrangements at KBN Stadium before considering it as a venue for future tournaments.

Somasundar also expressed KSCA’s intent to expand cricketing infrastructure beyond Bengaluru but emphasized the need for support from the Karnataka government and adequate land for development.
