International Yoga Day 2026 to Focus on Healthy Ageing Theme

International Yoga Day 2026: Date, Theme, History, and Significance International Yoga Day 2026 will be celebrated on June 21, 2026, uniting millions worldwide to honor the ancient Indian practice of yoga and its contributions to physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

The theme for this 12th edition is “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, emphasizing yoga’s role in promoting longevity, mobility, and overall wellness across all age groups.

The theme reflects the growing importance of yoga in supporting healthier and more active lives, especially as global populations continue to age.

The idea of dedicating a day to yoga was first proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014.

Recognizing yoga’s universal appeal and its deep roots in Indian culture, the UN adopted a resolution to observe June 21 as International Yoga Day, with unprecedented support from member states. Why June 21?

The date was chosen as it coincides with the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, the longest day of the year, which holds special significance in yogic traditions.

The first International Yoga Day was celebrated on June 21, 2015, and since then, it has evolved into a global event promoting health, harmony, and mindfulness.
