Gaya/Patna: A direct IndiGo flight to Bangkok has begun, adding a new chapter to Bihar’s international air connectivity. On 26 October, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary flagged off IndiGo’s first non-stop international flight from Gaya to Bangkok.
The new service has established direct air connectivity between Bihar and Thailand. Gaya is located near major pilgrimage sites associated with Buddhism. For Buddhist devotees travelling from Thailand and other countries, the direct flight could make the journey easier.
The new air link may also benefit tourism, the hotel business, local transport and related services. Easier travel between Bihar and Thailand could support these sectors and strengthen the state’s international connectivity.
However, the economic impact of the service will depend on several factors. These include the regularity of the flights, passenger demand, fares and the availability of tourism facilities.
The wider effect of the direct service on tourism and local businesses will therefore depend on these conditions.
