India will host the Global Wind Day 2026 conference on June 15 in Goa under the theme 'Wind Energy: From Ambition to Acceleration.' The event will bring together key stakeholders to discuss India's wind energy priorities, including capacity expansion, grid readiness,
manufacturing competitiveness, and offshore wind development. Wind energy plays a crucial role in India's renewable energy goals, with the country ranking fourth globally in installed wind power capacity.
India's wind capacity has grown significantly, from 21.04 GW in 2014 to 56.09 GW in 2026, with an additional 28 GW under implementation. The conference will also see the release of an industry report on boosting India's wind turbine exports.
India's estimated wind power potential is vast, with 1,163.9 GW at 150 meters hub height, concentrated in states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
The government has introduced targeted schemes and financial incentives, including ₹6,853 crore for offshore wind projects and ₹500 crore under the Generation Based Incentive scheme.
Global partnerships with countries like the UK, Denmark, and Belgium are enhancing India's wind energy capabilities, focusing on offshore wind deployment, technology transfer, and grid integration.
These collaborations aim to strengthen India's position in the global renewable energy market.
