India, Slovakia Elevate Ties to Comprehensive Partnership

On June 15, 2026, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Slovakia at the invitation of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

This historic visit marked the first by an Indian Prime Minister since Slovakia's independence in 1993, leading to the announcement of a Comprehensive Partnership between the two nations.

The Comprehensive Partnership aims to deepen bilateral cooperation across areas like trade, defense, and technology. Both leaders emphasized the importance of regional connectivity, open trade, and a rules-based international order, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.

They also agreed to enhance parliamentary exchanges and high-level political dialogue. India appreciated Slovakia's support for its permanent membership in a reformed UN Security Council.

Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and agreed to collaborate on global issues, including counterterrorism and cyber security. A Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism was announced to strengthen efforts against terrorism.

The leaders also signed a Letter of Intent on Defense Cooperation, focusing on defense technology, capacity building, and industrial collaboration.

Additionally, they agreed to work on clean energy transitions, including nuclear and geothermal energy, and to promote sustainable economic growth through regional projects.
