India's highways see record growth, boosting connectivity & economy

India's road infrastructure has undergone remarkable growth over the past 12 years, driven by initiatives like Bharatmala Pariyojana.

As of March 2026, 22,590 km of highways have been constructed under the program, which aims to develop 34,800 km of corridors with an outlay of ₹5.35 lakh crore. This expansion is transforming connectivity and logistics nationwide.

The Bharatmala Pariyojana, launched in 2017, focuses on economic corridors, feeder routes, border roads, and expressways. It has improved access to remote areas and reduced logistics costs, fostering economic growth and national integration.

The National Highway network has grown by 61% since 2014, reaching over 1,46,572 km by FY 2025-26. India's highway construction pace has also surged, from 11.6 km per day in 2013-14 to 34 km per day in 2025.

Projects like the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway have reduced travel times and boosted regional development. The Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, inaugurated in April 2026, has cut travel time between the two cities from over 6 hours to 2.5 hours.

These developments are not just enhancing connectivity but also creating opportunities for industrial growth, investment, and employment.

Iconic projects like the Dwarka Expressway and Delhi-Meerut Expressway are setting benchmarks in urban and regional mobility, supporting India's journey towards becoming a modern and self-reliant nation.
