India Post Launches Drone Mail Service in Himachal Pradesh

The Department of Posts, under Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, launched a drone-based mail service between Mandi and Rehardhar post offices in Himachal Pradesh on June 12, 2026.

This initiative reduces mail delivery time from over two hours to just seven minutes, addressing connectivity challenges in remote areas.

The Mandi-Rehardhar route is the first under a broader plan to deploy drones on 150 routes in Himachal Pradesh and Assam within the next two to three months. The project aims to improve postal services in difficult terrains, ensuring faster and more reliable delivery.

Rehardhar Branch Post Office, located 12 kilometers from Mandi, previously relied on conventional methods that were time-consuming due to the region's mountainous terrain.

The drone service not only saves time but also offers real-time tracking and an environmentally sustainable mode of transportation. This move is part of the government’s vision to leverage technology for better service delivery and greater inclusion.

By enhancing connectivity in remote areas, the initiative is expected to benefit local communities socially and economically.

Union Minister Scindia emphasized the importance of this innovation in overcoming logistical challenges and strengthening postal infrastructure in rural India. Key Points - Drone mail service launched between Mandi and Rehardhar in Himachal Pradesh.
