India hosts 16th BRICS Agriculture Ministers' Meeting in Indore

The 16th BRICS Agriculture Ministers' Meeting was held on June 12-13, 2026, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, under India's chairship.

The meeting focused on food security, sustainable agriculture, and innovation, concluding with the adoption of a Joint Declaration outlining key initiatives to strengthen global agricultural systems.

The Joint Declaration emphasized farmer-centric approaches, particularly supporting smallholder farmers to ensure food security and sustainable practices.

Among the major outcomes was the establishment of the BRICS Network of Centres of Excellence on Agroecology and Regenerative Agriculture, coordinated initially by ICAR-IIFSR in Modipuram, India.

This initiative aims to promote climate-resilient farming practices across member nations. Another significant decision was the creation of a Network on Digital Agriculture, led by IIT Delhi, to advance AI, geospatial technologies, and data-driven solutions for agriculture.

Additionally, the Global Forum on Farmers' Rights in Seed Systems was launched to protect traditional knowledge and seed heritage, coordinated by PPV&FRA in New Delhi.

The meeting also saw the establishment of the BRICS AGRIN Framework to enhance collaboration in seeds, agro-inputs, and genetic resources. Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the BRICS Agricultural Research Platform and promoting fair agricultural trade.
