The BRICS Agriculture Ministers' Meeting in Indore concluded on June 13, 2026, with the adoption of the 'Indore Declaration.' This historic agreement focuses on food security, sustainable farming, and farmer welfare, marking a significant step in global agricultural cooperation
among BRICS nations. The declaration outlines four key priorities: ensuring food and nutritional security, promoting agricultural trade, advancing climate-resilient farming, and fostering innovation and technology in agriculture.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized that the declaration places farmers at its core, aiming to secure their livelihoods and promote sustainable practices. Four major initiatives were announced under the declaration.
These include the BRICS Network of Centres of Excellence on Agro-Ecology and Regenerative Agriculture, which will focus on natural and organic farming practices.
The BRICS Network on Digital Agriculture aims to integrate emerging technologies like AI and geospatial tools into farming.
Additionally, the Global Forum on Farmers' Rights in Seed Systems will work to protect indigenous seed diversity, while BRICS AgriN will enhance cooperation in agricultural inputs and genetic resources.
India, holding the BRICS presidency under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, hosted the meeting in Indore, which saw participation from nearly 100 delegates, including 60 international representatives.
