Anthropic restores Claude access after AI chatbot platform experiences brief outage

Anthropic Restores Claude Access Following Brief Outage

Anthropic’s AI chatbot platform, Claude, experienced a brief outage on Thursday, June 18, disrupting services for users across multiple regions. According to outage tracker Downdetector, the downtime began at 12:04 pm IST, with over 2,174 users reporting issues such as blank replies, failed prompts, and connection errors at the peak of the disruption.

The company confirmed the outage at 7:41 am UTC (1:11 pm IST), stating that it had identified the cause and was working on a resolution. By 8:19 am UTC (1:49 pm IST), Anthropic announced that the issue had been resolved. The downtime, which lasted from 06:55 to 07:40 UTC, was officially marked as resolved on the Claude status page.

This is not the first time Claude has faced service interruptions. Incident logs show several disruptions in June, including elevated error rates and performance issues affecting both Claude.ai and its API services. Recent outages have been linked to models like Claude Opus 4.8 and Claude Haiku 4.5, with users reporting intermittent service and performance problems.

Anthropic has acknowledged that the growing demand for its AI services, such as Claude Code and other enterprise tools, has strained its computing infrastructure. The company is working to address these capacity challenges by expanding its infrastructure through partnerships with major cloud providers, though some of the additional capacity is not yet operational.

The company assured users that it is actively monitoring the situation to maintain normal service levels. Users experiencing further issues are encouraged to consult the official Claude status page for updates and incident reports.
