Severe Weather Impacts Across 11 States: Roads Collapse in Agra, Cloudbursts in Jammu & Kashmir

Heavy rains and storms have impacted 11 states across India, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat. In Agra, Uttar Pradesh, intense rainfall lasting about an hour caused roads and footpaths to collapse, leading to vehicles such as tractors, cars, and trucks overturning in the resulting craters.

In Madhya Pradesh, adverse weather conditions led to fatalities. A teenager lost his life due to lightning in Singrauli, while a mother and child died after the roof of a dilapidated house collapsed in Neemuch. Meanwhile, Jammu & Kashmir experienced cloudbursts in Doda, Kishtwar, and Poonch districts, causing road blockages, flooding in residential areas, and vehicles getting trapped in debris. Additionally, a person in Anantnag district lost their life due to a tree falling during the storm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for several states. In Madhya Pradesh, 36 districts, including Indore and Ujjain, are under a heavy rain and wind alert, with gusts expected to reach speeds of 60 km/h. Rajasthan is bracing for storms and hail in five districts, with winds potentially reaching 70 km/h. Bihar remains under a heatwave alert in five districts, with maximum temperatures expected to rise to 43°C. Haryana is also facing storm warnings in seven districts, with wind speeds of 50-60 km/h.

The IMD has forecast monsoon arrival in Kerala by June 4, slightly delayed from earlier predictions. Orange and yellow alerts have been issued for various districts in Kerala due to expected rainfall between June 2 and June 6.
