Firefighters evacuating patients from Muzaffarpur hospital after a fire broke out.
A tragic fire broke out at a private hospital in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, early Thursday morning, claiming four lives and leaving over 20 people injured. The incident occurred around 3 AM, and rescue operations were complicated by the ICU's location on the fifth floor and the waiting hall on the fourth floor. Firefighters had to break windows and doors to evacuate trapped patients.
District Magistrate Subrat Kumar confirmed three deaths and stated that 13 to 15 patients were admitted to the ICU at the time of the incident. Some patients were shifted to other hospitals. Kumar assured that negligence by the hospital administration would be investigated, and necessary action would be taken.
Eyewitnesses alleged that police hurriedly removed bodies from the site and accused hospital staff of abandoning patients during the fire. A nurse was reportedly accused of misrepresenting deceased individuals as alive. Family members of some patients claimed their relatives were missing from the wards.
The fire brigade reported that most hospital staff were absent when their team arrived. Civil Surgeon and paramedical staff have reached the site, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. Updates on the situation are expected as authorities continue their inquiry.
This incident follows another fire at a hotel in Delhi's Malviya Nagar, which claimed 21 lives, highlighting concerns about fire safety in public establishments.
