In a tragic building collapse in Delhi's Saket on May 30, six lives were lost, and investigations have unveiled critical details about the property owner and construction activities. The building's owner, Karamveer, reportedly earned ₹10 lakh monthly from renting out the four-story structure, with each floor fetching ₹2.5 lakh in rent. At the time of the collapse, construction of two additional floors was underway.
Authorities have arrested 71-year-old Karamveer and seized several electricity meters registered in his name from the debris, which are being treated as evidence. Investigators believe these meters could play a crucial role in establishing the owner's involvement. Efforts are also underway to contact tenants and residents who rented flats in the building to gather information about the construction timeline and any prior complaints regarding structural weaknesses.
Sources indicate that the building lacked an approved map, and police are probing whether construction violated regulations. If proven, accountability may extend beyond Karamveer to the builder responsible for the structure. The builder, identified as Manish, is currently absconding, with his last known location traced to Dehradun. A police team has been dispatched to locate him, as his arrest could provide vital insights into the construction process, approvals, and financial transactions related to the building.
The collapse occurred at 6:00 PM on May 30, followed by rescue operations led by the NDRF. Among the deceased were two doctors, adding to the gravity of the incident.
